FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Arts Council has accepted 18 performing artists and groups to be added to its Kentucky Performing Arts Directory. Two groups had their eligibility renewed for the state-sponsored adjudicated roster of performing artists.
The new Performing Arts Directory artists and groups are: Hussam Al Aydi and Baladna, Louisville; Appalatin, Louisville; Angela Bartley, Louisville; Andy Blyth, Berea; Virgil Bowlin, London; Coco Yam Band, Louisville; Diana Dinicola, Louisville; Heath Eric, Calhoun; Mariya Tarakanova and FlamencoTalk, Louisville; Stirfry, Frankfort; Lauren Houston, Covington; The Jawbones, Louisville; Pat Kirtley, Bardstown; Divas and Dogs, Louisville; Penelope Quesada, Louisville; Robert Tincher, Lexington; The Downtown County Band, Frankfort; and Voces Novae, Louisville. The renewed groups are Looking for Lillith and Squallis Puppeteers, both from Louisville.
Acceptance into the Performing Arts Directory is based on artistic excellence, performance experience and marketing capacity, as judged by an independent panel of performing arts professionals. There are currently 111 individual artists or groups participating in the Performing Arts Directory program. The Kentucky Arts Council aids in marketing and promoting Kentucky's Performing Arts Directory artists to presenters and performance venues through the Web based directory, representation at the Performing Arts Exchange produced by the Southern Arts Federation, a performing arts on tour grant program and the annual showcase Kentucky on Stage.
Produced by the Kentucky Arts Council, Kentucky on Stage connects performing arts presenters, corporate event planners, festival organizers, library program planners, community organizations and university student activity boards to performing artists with a broad range of talents in dance, music, theatre and storytelling.
The next Kentucky on Stage is from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., August 19, 2009 at the Falling Spring Recreation Center Theater, 275 Beasley Drive, Versailles, Ky. Primarily a showcase and booking opportunity for performing arts presenters, the public is invited to attend. A special Performing Arts on Tour Grant Writing Workshop will precede Kentucky on Stage at 9:30 a.m. For more information and to register, go to www.artscouncil.ky.gov.
