Kentucky Arts Council Approves Artists for Performing Arts Directory
Recent panel recommendations add seven performing artists and groups to the Kentucky Arts Council’s Performing Arts Directory. This roster offers venues across the nation some of Kentucky’s finest contemporary and traditional music, theatre, dance and storytelling. The new additions are Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Newport; Amy and Daniel Carwhile, Lexington; Willie Eames, Lexington; Derby City Chorus, Louisville; Butch Rice, Louisville; James Price, Richmond; and Andrew Leonard of Versailles.
The Kentucky Arts Council actively promotes artists accepted into the Performing Arts Directory Program through showcase opportunities, performing arts booking conferences and referrals.
The Kentucky Arts Council will produce a showcase in conjunction with the Kentucky Folklife Festival in Frankfort on September 15, 2005. A second showcase and booking conference “Kentucky On Stage” is planned for November 2 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Lexington Children’s Theatre.
The directory is also a benefit to presenters, both in- and out-of-state who use the directory as a resource to identify artists for performance bookings and projects.
Robyn Burkett of the Master Musicians Festival in Somerset uses up to five artists a year from the directory. “They’ve been great, since what’s listed fits perfectly in our mission as an organization and what we put on our stage,” says Burkett.
Kentucky presenters interested in booking artists included in the Performing Arts Directory may also apply for artist’s fee subsidies through the Kentucky Arts Council’s Performing Arts On Tour Grant Program. The new directory is scheduled for publication in September.
