FRANKFORT, Ky. — Join the Kentucky Arts Council for Kentucky On Stage, a mini booking conference for arts presenters that is also free and open to the public. The event is 1-5 p.m. Aug. 22, in the William Stamps Farish Theater at the central Lexington Public Library.

The afternoon of live entertainment features some of the state's most dynamic performing artists, all adjudicated participants in the arts council's Performing Arts Directory. Music, dance, theater and more are slated for the afternoon of performances.

"Kentucky On Stage is a great opportunity for arts presenters, individuals, businesses, civic organizations and others to check out some of Kentucky's top performers and get acquainted with the types of artists they can book through the Performing Arts Directory," said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. "It's also a great opportunity to see artists at work, and it's free for anyone who would like to attend."

The event is a showcase, mini booking conference and training opportunity for performing arts presenters, librarians, festival organizers, park directors, Main Street and Renaissance program managers, convention and tourism officials, wedding and event planners, civic leaders, college and university activity boards, educators, community center directors and anyone interested in booking Kentucky performing artists.

This year's showcase includes 12 performing artists or groups selected from the arts council's Performing Arts Directory. Showcase performers are:

  • Bob & Susie Hutchison, music, traditional Appalachian and Celtic
  • Hong Shao, music, traditional Chinese
  • Joe Hudson, music, thumbpicking guitar
  • Dale Pyatt, music, original country
  • Lexington Children's Theatre, theater

Prior to the afternoon performances, workshops will be available to attendees from 10 a.m. to noon at the library. These workshops, along with the showcase performances, provide up to six hours of continuing education credits for librarians. There is also a workshop about building audiences with social media for arts organizations interested in learning more on the topic. All workshops are free. Advance registration is required.

The Lexington Public Library Central location is at 140 E. Main St. The event is free. Advance registration for presenters is registration and is online at the arts council's website.
