FRANKFORT, KY — Visitors to the Kentucky Capitol Centennial Celebration on June 5, 2010, at the Capitol in Frankfort will have an opportunity to purchase some of Kentucky’s finest traditional and contemporary craft and art from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Artists who have been accepted into the Kentucky Arts Council's Kentucky Crafted program will offer handmade jewelry, bath and beauty products, baskets, paintings, woodwork, sculpture, glass and fiber arts.

The Capitol Centennial Celebration pays homage to the 100-year history of Kentucky's Capitol. Gov. Steve Beshear and First Lady Jane Beshear will lead the festivities, and many former governors and first ladies are expected to attend. Dr. Everett McCorvey, professor of voice and endowed chair of Opera Studies at the University of Kentucky, will sing "America," and the national anthem will be played by Lindy Casebier, deputy secretary of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet.

During the Kentucky Capitol Centennial Celebration, the pendentive murals of the Centennial Legacy Project will be introduced. The murals are placed on the interior of the Capitol's Rotunda representing agriculture, industry, culture and civilization. For more information about the Kentucky Capitol Centennial Celebration and the pendentive murals, go to
www.capitol.ky.gov.

The
Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
