FRANKFORT, Ky.Artists exhibiting at Kentucky Crafted: The Market have submitted their nominations for the Top Retailer awards for 2010. The Kentucky Arts Council, producer of the award-winning arts marketplace, annually awards a Top Retailer award to a Kentucky business and an out-of-state business, as voted upon by participating exhibitors. Nominations and voting are based on sales, professionalism and promotion of the Kentucky Crafted brand. The awards will be presented at 5 p.m. on March 5, 2010, at Kentucky Crafted: The Market, Kentucky Exposition Center, South Wing B, Louisville, Ky.

 

Kentucky Crafted Top Retailer nominations for Kentucky businesses are: 21 C Museum Hotel, Louisville; Appalachian Fireside Gallery, Berea; ARTIQUE, Lexington; Chestnut Tree Gallery, Richmond; Damselfly Gallery, Midway; Gallery Janjobe, Louisville; Kaviar Forge and Gallery, Louisville; Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea; Kentucky Haus Craft Gallery, Newport; Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Louisville; Kentucky Proud Market, Lexington; Kentucky Soaps and Such, Stanford; Promenade Gallery, Berea; Red Bird Mission, Beverly; Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill, Harrodsburg; The 1887 Corner Store, LeGrange; True Kentucky, Glendale; Truly Bluegrass, Versailles; and Woodford Reserve, Versailles.

 

Kentucky Crafted Top Retailer nominations for out-of-state businesses are: Allanstand Craft Shop, Asheville, N.C.; Bluestem Missouri Crafts, Columbia, Mo.; Boulder Arts and Crafts Cooperative, Boulder, Colo.; Craft Co. #6, Rochester, N.Y.; Gallery M, Half Moon Bay, Calif.; Grovewood Gallery, Asheville, N.C.; Lot 34, Milford, Ohio; Hanson Galleries, Houston, Texas; Hidden Hill Nursery and Sculpture Garden, Utica, Ind.; Jenss Department Store, Amherst, N.Y.; Shaker Workshops, Ashburnham, Mass.; and The Gallery on Pearl, New Albany, Ind.

 

"The top retailer award gives credit to businesses that are key to the success of the art and craft industry in Kentucky," said Lori Meadows, executive director of the Kentucky Arts Council. "These nominations also indicate the geographic reach available to Kentucky Crafted exhibitors through Kentucky Crafted:The Market."

 

Past recipients of the annual Kentucky Top Retailer Award for Kentucky Crafted: The Market are: Completely Kentucky, Frankfort; Shaker Village at  Pleasant Hill, Harrodsburg; Promenade Gallery, Berea; Kentucky Haus Craft Gallery Inc., Newport; True Kentucky, Glendale; Log House Craft Gallery, Berea; Appalachian Fireside Galleries, Berea; Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea; and the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Louisville.

 

Past recipients of the Out-of-State Top Retailer Award are: Southern Hands, Highlands, N.C.; Craft Company No. 6, Rochester, N.Y.; Johny Reb Craft Gallery, Hendersonville, N.C.; Bluestem Missouri Crafts, Columbia, Mo.; A Show of Hands, Hendersonville, N.C.; Forever Resorts, Estes Park, Colo.; Grovewood Gallery, Asheville, N.C.; Artisan Center at Maple Creek, Moscow, Ohio; and Boulder Arts and Craft Co-op, Boulder, Colo.

 

Kentucky Crafted: The Market offers buyers from galleries, shops and online retail venues across the nation the opportunity to select products from more than 200 exhibitors of fine art and craft, books, CDs, DVDs and specialty foods. The Market is open exclusively to wholesale buyers on March 4 and 5.

 

On March 6 and 7, the marketplace opens to the public. In addition to shopping for fine art and craft, visitors can enjoy musical performances, meet Kentucky authors, explore Kentucky traditions, view films by Kentucky filmmakers and take home Kentucky Proud specialty food products.

 

Kentucky Crafted: The Market, now in its 28th year, is produced by the Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency that creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Friday, March 5, 2010, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Registration required. Buyers must show two forms of business identification.

Saturday, March 6, 2010, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Sunday, March 7, 2010, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Admission is $8 for adults. Children 15 and under free. Get $3 off admission with coupon from www.kycraft.ky.gov. Parking at Kentucky Exposition Center is $6.
