Kentucky Crafted: The Market set for March 8-9; discounted tickets on sale now
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Discounted tickets are available online for Kentucky Crafted: The Market 2014, the Kentucky Arts Council's annual wholesale-retail marketplace of contemporary and traditional fine art and craft, music, literature and regional food products.
The Market, the longest running state-sponsored event of its kind in the country, will be open to the public March 8-9 at the Lexington Convention Center, and includes several new attractions for attendees this year.
"Kentucky Crafted: The Market proves year after year the value Kentuckians and other visitors to the event place on Kentucky-made art and craft," said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. "This year, we have new exhibitors offering exciting new products, in addition to new exhibits, and musicians who will perform on the Kentucky Stage for the first time at The Market. This is a show not to be missed."
In its 32nd year, Kentucky Crafted: The Market remains the No. 1 state-sponsored wholesale-retail opportunity for Kentucky artists who are adjudicated participants in the arts council's Kentucky Crafted program.
"There is simply no other opportunity to purchase work from such a high concentration of Kentucky's top artists in one location, many of whom are among the finest artists in the state," said Meadows. "Some of our participating artists only exhibit once a year, and that's at The Market."
The first day of The Market, March 7, is a wholesale trade show day, open exclusively to qualified business owners who sell products in retail venues and galleries. The wholesale day acts as an economic generator for Kentucky, annually attracting 300 to 500 buyers from 15 to 20 states. Qualified buyers can register for free online at http://artscouncil.ky.gov/KentuckyArt/2014Market.htm.
Doors open to the public on March 8 and 9, offering visitors an opportunity to purchase new work before it hits store shelves or is installed on gallery walls. Hours for The Market are:
- March 8, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
- March 9, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Advance tickets are available online through Feb. 28 at a reduced rate. Online tickets are $8 for one day and $12 for both days. Tickets purchased at the event will be $10 for one day and $15 for both days. Children 15 and younger are admitted free with a paying adult.
