Garden Designer Jon Carloftis Makes Special Appearance at Kentucky Crafted: The Market
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Jon Carloftis will be in his element as he comes home to Kentucky for Kentucky Crafted: The Market. The state-sponsored marketplace for traditional and contemporary fine art and craft, along with books, musical recordings, films and Kentucky Proud® food products will be held at South Wing B of the Kentucky Exposition Center, Louisville, Ky., on February 21-22, 2009.
Carloftis will give a talk, "Designing a Kentucky Crafted Garden," at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 21st, sharing his ideas about creating beautiful garden spaces. He will also make connections with many of the wonderful products that can be found at Kentucky Crafted: The Market to the gardenscape. This ticketed event has limited seating, so early arrival is advised. The fee is $25 which includes free admission to Kentucky Crafted: The Market.
Presentation attendees can also sign up for small group tours of Kentucky Crafted: The Market with Jon Carloftis at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Carloftis will design four garden vignettes for Kentucky Crafted: The Market. The main showcase will incorporate trees, plants, a water feature and sculptural pieces. Another garden will use a country garden shed as its inspiration. There will also be a Japanese-themed garden and a boxwood gallery featuring visual art from The Market.
One of the rising stars of American garden design, Jon Carloftis always looks to his native Kentucky as inspiration for his successful garden design firm located in New York City. Carloftis is probably best known for his rooftop and terrace gardens– he is a past recipient of the Landscaping Design Award from the Museum of the City of New York. In Louisville, Carloftis designed the rooftop garden of the 21c Museum Hotel and has designed gardens for some of the finest private homes in central Kentucky.
Carloftis has authored books, contributed to or been featured in many national home and garden design magazines and is also a noted lecturer, traveling extensively across the United States.
