Kentucky Arts Council Seeks Venues for Independent Filmmakers' Tour

FRANKFORT, Ky. –The Kentucky Arts Council is currently accepting applications for venues interested in presenting films and filmmakers included in the "Al Smith Fellowship Filmmaker Tour."  Qualifying organizations can receive up to $1,500 in matching grant funds to present public screenings of films by Kentucky filmmakers Sean Anderson, Elizabeth Barret and/or Mimi Pickering.  These filmmakers have all received the Kentucky Arts Council's Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship Award in the media arts category.

 

The deadline for the application is May 11, 2009 and will cover film and filmmaker presentations taking place before December 1, 2009.  For more information and to receive an application, contact Individual Artist Program Director Tamara Coffey at (502) 564-3757 ext. 479, (888) 833-2787 or tamara.coffey@ky.gov.

 

The purpose of the Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship Program is to support Kentucky artists engaged in creating artwork of high quality and to recognize creative excellence in practicing, professional Kentucky artists.  The fellowship awards are named after retired Kentucky journalist and past Arts Council Board chair, Al Smith.

 

The Kentucky Arts Council is a state agency in the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet that creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
