The Governor’s Derby Breakfast involves participants from all over Kentucky and the public will be treated to more than just a great breakfast. All Kentuckians and derby fans are invited to gather on the Capitol grounds, May 7, 2005, 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. (EDT) in celebration of this long-standing tradition that preludes the running of the 131^st Kentucky Derby. As always, it is free to the public.

For the 23^rd year, various artisans will be a part of the festivities during the breakfast.  Twenty-eight juried participants of the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program (KCMP) will offer guests a variety of quality "Kentucky Crafted" contemporary and traditional handmade ceramics, baskets, jewelry, clothing, wooden furniture, glass, and metal works.

Kentucky is recognized nationally as a leader in state programs that support a wealth of talented artists and craftspeople.

Craft exhibitors will be in a new location this year and will take advantage of the wonderful space available to them in the Mansion tent located between the Breakfast Tent and the Governor’s Mansion. 

The Derby Breakfast is just the beginning of the fairs and festivals season that can provide numerous opportunities to shop for “Kentucky Crafted” works. Since 1981, the Craft Marketing Program's mission is to develop the state's craft industry, support and empower Kentucky artisans and craftspeople, create an economically viable environment for craft entrepreneurs, preserve the state's craft traditions, stimulate and support product development, and generate public awareness, public support and public/private partnerships.

The Program provides assistance to Kentucky residents, individuals, or groups wanting to develop as craft professionals through economic opportunities and training, to other outside entities (e.g., craft retailers, craft and art organizations, community and government agencies), and the general public. The craft industry in Kentucky contributes 252 million dollars in annual sales and Kentucky is recognized as a model state for its craft programs and its role in the $14 billion national craft industry.
