School children paint colorful canvases for Governor’s Derby Celebration in Frankfort
FRANKFORT, KY — Visitors to the Capitol on Derby Day morning will be able to enjoy their breakfast on picnic tables transformed into horses for the Governor's Derby Celebration. Each of the 50 horses will don tablecloths fashioned as "horse blankets" painted by Kentucky school children, demonstrating the unbridled spirit of Kentucky.
The Kentucky Arts Council invited schools from across the Commonwealth to participate in the Derby project on behalf of Gov. Steve Beshear and First Lady Jane Beshear.

"We are very pleased to have schools from as far away as Fulton County in the west and Floyd County in the east be a part of the festivities for the Governor's Derby Celebration," said First Lady Jane Beshear.
Participating schools are:

The Governor’s Derby Celebration will be on the state Capitol grounds from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 1, 2010, and is open to the public. This year's celebration offers plenty of color, excitement, entertainment, children's activities and, of course, food. There will be a nominal charge for the food ($1 per item), but there will be plenty of free fun for the entire family. For more information, go to www.governor.ky.gov/derbycelebration.
