FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky visual artists may submit work for consideration to be included in the Governor's Derby Exhibit, an annual feature of the Governor's Derby Celebration. Works selected for the exhibit will be on display March 29-May 5 in the Capitol Rotunda.

The Governor's Derby Exhibit celebrates the arts and the artists who contribute to the creation of vibrant communities through their work in Kentucky. Any Kentucky visual artist age 18 and older may submit up to two works for consideration in the exhibit.

"The Governor's Derby Exhibit presents an excellent opportunity for Kentucky artists who want to start exhibiting their work in a professional setting," said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. "This is one of the only opportunities the arts council sponsors that is open to all artists in Kentucky. It continues to be a great entry point for artists to learn about the programs, grants and training opportunities that are available to them through the state arts agency."

The theme for this year's exhibit is Spring in Kentucky. All submissions must be original work by the artist, two-dimensional and ready to hang. The overall dimensions, including frame, should not exceed 36 inches in width.

The annual show is coordinated by the arts council on behalf of Governor Steve Beshear and First Lady Jane Beshear.

For more information or to submit work, visit the arts council's website or contact Kate Sprengnether, public art and design program director, at kate.sprengnether@ky.gov or 888-833-2787, ext. 470.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
