Kentucky Arts Council Selects Artists for Arts Education Roster
FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky Arts Council has accepted five Kentucky artists for the agency's Arts Education Roster; a resource for teachers planning for an arts-enriched learning environment in Kentucky schools.
The professional artists made application with the intent of being resident artists in schools or communities in Kentucky.
Artists joining the Kentucky Arts Council's Arts Education Roster are: Cathya Beard, Dance, Lexington; Lora Benedict, Dance, Paintsville; Thomas Freese, Literary Arts, Louisville; Pamela Holcomb, Storytelling, Putney; and Jim McGee, Folk/Traditional Music, Louisville.
Acceptance onto the roster is based on artistic excellence, teaching and residency experience and the quality of proposed residencies, as judged by an independent panel of arts and education professionals by means of applications review and personal interviews.
The Arts Education Roster is also useful in identifying artists for community projects, youth-at-risk programs, early childhood education, special education and lifelong-learning programs. For a complete listing of the 57 artists currently on the Arts Education Roster, including contact information and sample residencies, go to http://artistdirectory.ky.gov/aer/.
The next opportunity for artists to apply for inclusion on the Arts Education Roster is March 15, 2009. For application guidelines, go to http://artscouncil.ky.gov/guide/prog6/air_gdl.html
The Kentucky Arts Council is a state agency in the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet that creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
