Arts Council presents Arts Education Residency Sampler in Owensboro

FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Arts Council will introduce opportunities in arts education to teachers, administrators and interested parents in the western Kentucky region. The Arts Education Residency Sampler will be from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. CDT, on Sept. 14, 2010, at Owensboro High School, 1800 Frederica St., Owensboro, Ky.

The program will feature teaching artists from the agency's Arts Education Roster demonstrating their art form and describing potential residencies available to schools and community groups. In addition, information will be available for high schools interested in Poetry Out Loud, the national poetry recitation competition presented by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. A grant writing workshop for Poetry Out Loud and the agency's Teacher Initiated Program will also be available.

Robert Duncan, arts and humanities consultant, Division of Curriculum Development, Kentucky Department of Education, will address the Arts and Humanities Program Review. "This residency sampler is a great professional development opportunity for teachers across the curriculum," said Duncan.

The Arts Education Residency Sampler is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is not required, but appreciated. For more information and to pre-register, contact Carrie Nath, arts education program director, at carrie.nath@ky.gov or 502-564-3757, ext. 486.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
