Kentucky Arts Council presents Arts Day in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Arts Council is hosting a full schedule of activities to celebrate and acknowledge the importance of the arts in Kentucky on Feb. 22, 2011, in Frankfort.
Arts leaders from across the Commonwealth will come to meet with their legislators, network with each other and enjoy a reception featuring special musical performances.
“Arts Day in Kentucky serves many purposes,” said Lori Meadows, executive director of the Kentucky Arts Council. “It’s a time when arts organizations receiving funding through our Kentucky Arts Partnership grant program can convene, a time for artists and arts leaders to connect with the General Assembly and a time to celebrate the value of public supported arts in communities across the Commonwealth.”
Following is the schedule of events for the day:
9 – 11 a.m. |
Individual meetings with legislators arranged by constituents

11 a.m. – 2 p.m. |
Kentucky Arts Partnership ceremonial checks presented by legislators and the Kentucky Arts Council at the Capitol

2 – 3 p.m. |
2010 Governor’s Awards in the Arts recipients introduced in the House and Senate chambers
|
3:30 – 4:30 p.m. |
Education directors from Kentucky Arts Partnership organizations and artists from the Kentucky Arts Council Arts Education Roster meet to discuss education updates
|
5:30 – 8 p.m. |
Arts Day in Kentucky public reception featuring artists from the Kentucky Arts Council’s Performing Arts Directory, a National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) chamber group and NSO violinist Glenn Donnellan playing the batolin at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, 100 West Broadway, Frankfort. |
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
