Shop Kentucky Crafted Retailers during American Craft Week, Oct. 4-13
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Quality craftsmanship and artistic excellence produced by Kentucky's finest artists and sold by Kentucky retailers are in the spotlight during American Craft Week, Oct. 4-13. The weeklong celebration in Kentucky is part of the Kentucky Arts Council's celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month, recognized in the state via proclamation by Governor Steve Beshear.
American Craft Week is an opportunity to celebrate the nation and state's creative industry, a sector that contributes significantly to the Commonwealth's economy. Hundreds of Kentucky artisans, like those in the Kentucky Crafted Program, share their vision and talent by producing handmade decorative and functional items available for purchase through craft retailers like those who have obtained designation as a Kentucky Crafted Retailer.
"The arts council participates in American Craft Week by shining the spotlight on our Kentucky Crafted artists and retailers," said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. "Our craftspeople and retailers are all small business operators who are dedicated to continuing the state's fine tradition of producing and selling some of the best craft in the nation."
Kentucky Crafted Retailers in Ohio and Kentucky join shops, galleries and arts organizations from across the nation in celebrating American Craft Week. Now in its fourth year, this annual recognition of the makers, retailers, collectors and shows highlights the exceptional value, enduring quality and cultural significance of handmade American craft.
