Kentucky Arts Council Hosts Breakfasts Across the Commonwealth
FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet, will host a series of community breakfasts across the commonwealth during October to celebrate its 40th Anniversary, the National Endowment for the Arts’ 40th Anniversary and National Arts and Humanities Month.
The 7:30 a.m. breakfasts in Louisville, Covington, Danville, Hazard, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Lexington, Morehead and Paducah are an opportunity for artists, craftspeople, arts organization representatives, educators, community leaders and the media to celebrate 40 years of creating opportunities for Kentuckians through the arts.
“We’re very excited about coming to every region of the state to celebrate the Kentucky Arts Council’s 40th Anniversary and the growth of the arts in local communities since 1965. We hope anyone with an interest in the arts will join us for breakfast,” said Lori Meadows, Executive Director of the Kentucky Arts Council.
The Kentucky Arts Council is also offering various informational and training sessions later in the morning and afternoon, providing an overview of the Kentucky Arts Councils grants, programs and services and how to apply. Roundtable discussions offer technical assistance from staff on topics such as advocacy and alternate funding sources.
Breakfast, workshops and information sessions are free and open to the public.

Kentucky Arts Council Overview of Grants, Programs and Services — Participants in this general information session will learn about all the opportunities for arts funding as well as programs and services available to artists, schools, arts organizations, libraries, businesses, local governments and community organizations through the Kentucky Arts Council.
BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch) Roundtable Discussions — Tables will be set up with Kentucky Arts Council staff members available to answer questions and provide specific technical assistance to grantees and potential grantees on various topics such as credit guideline requirements, advocacy, alternate funding sources and exhibition opportunities for Uncommonwealth: Legacy of the Kentucky Arts Council Fellowships.
Applying to the Kentucky Arts Council - Tips for Success — This workshop gives detailed information about the application and panel review process and how to make a strong case for a grant proposal or how to present yourself favorably when applying to any of the adjudicated programs for performing artists, artists as educators, visual artists and craftspeople.
Online Application Tutorial - This session will introduce artists interested in applying for the adjudicated programs of the Kentucky Arts Council and Craft Marketing Program to the new electronic application system, Kentucky Arts Services OnLine (KASOL). The new deadline for adjudicated programs is March 15, 2007 and all applications must be submitted through KASOL. Individual artist adjudicated programs are: Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship (visual and media artists), Performing Arts Directory, Arts Education Roster, Visual Arts at the Market and the Kentucky Crafted Program.
Lincoln Bicentennial Project Grants — This workshop is for arts or community organizations interested in pursuing Lincoln related arts projects, with funding through the Kentucky Arts Council supported by the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission initiative.
Lincoln Bicentennial Product Development — This workshop is for artists and craftspeople interested in developing Lincoln related products to market in conjunction with the celebration of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial in 2008 and 2009.
