- Kentucky Arts Council Selects Fifteen High Schools to Participate in Poetry Out Loud
Friday, November 06, 2009 The Kentucky Arts Council has selected fifteen high schools to participate in the state competition for the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest. Selected schools are Allen County Scottsville High School,Paul Laurence Dunbar High School,Frankfort High School,Western Hills High School, Fulton High School, Grant County High School, Harlan County High School, Hart County High School, Ballard High School, Beechwood High School, Knox Central High School, Jenkins Independent School, Mercer County High School, Ohio County High School and Greenwood High School.

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 The Kentucky Arts Council will host the Governor's Awards in the Arts, a public ceremony and celebration, on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort.

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 The Kentucky Arts Council is accepting applications until October 15, 2009 for Teacher Initiated Program grants. These grants support schools bringing professional artists into the classroom.
- Kentucky Arts Council Presents Information Sessions across the Commonwealth
Friday, September 25, 2009 In celebration of National Arts and Humanities month, the Kentucky Arts Council will be visiting ten communities to present a series of informational sessions known as "Kentucky Arts Council on the Road." These convenings will give citizens opportunities to network with those engaged in the arts at the local level and to learn about the work of the arts council, the state arts agency.

Friday, September 11, 2009 The Kentucky Arts Council welcomes artists, representatives from arts organizations, educators and community leaders from Lexington and the surrounding area for an afternoon reception at 3:00 p.m. E.D.T., Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Miller House, 832 Lochmere Place at The Enclave at Andover Estates on Chilesburg Road, Lexington, Ky. The reception follows the quarterly meeting of the governing board of directors of the Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency.
- Kentucky Arts Council Awards Fellowships to Visual and Media Artists
Tuesday, August 18, 2009 The Kentucky Arts Council has awarded 15 Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship awards of $7,500 each to Kentucky visual and media artists. This year, a category for emerging artists has been added to the awards program to recognize artistic excellence for new and emerging artists. These awards of $1000 each went to three visual artists and one media artist.
- Arts Council Offers Marketing Opportunities for Kentucky Craftspeople and Artists
Friday, August 14, 2009 The Kentucky Arts Council is accepting applications until September 15, 2009 for the Kentucky Crafted Program. This state-sponsored program assists craftspeople and visual artists working in any medium, to reach regional, national and international wholesale and retail markets.
- Governor Beshear Presents Economic Stimulus Checks to Kentucky Arts Organizations
Tuesday, August 11, 2009 Today, Gov. Steve Beshear presented a check for $306,766 to Kentucky arts organizations to preserve jobs in the arts and cultural sector of the Commonwealth. He then presented checks to each of the 18 organizations and to the group of arts workers whose jobs were preserved through the economic stimulus funding.

The showcase and booking conference for presenters will feature music, dance, theatre and storytelling from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. E.D.T., Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at the Falling Springs Recreational Center Theater, 275 Beasley Drive, Versailles, Ky.

Friday, July 24, 2009 Arts Build Communities grants of up to $5,000 each have been awarded in 10 counties to encourage new opportunities and partnerships between artists and community organizations for cultural, social, educational and/or economic development through the arts.
- Kentucky Arts Council Supports Arts through County Extension Agents
Friday, July 24, 2009 The Kentucky Arts Council awarded Extensions and the Arts grants to 10 County Cooperative Extension Service programs of the University of Kentucky. The grants, of $1,000 each, extended the arts to counties through partnerships with artists and extension agents to benefit the community. Each of the projects includes documentation planning, so similar community arts projects may be replicated in other counties throughout the commonwealth.
- Kentucky Arts Council Expands Performing Arts Directory
Wednesday, July 22, 2009 The Kentucky Arts Council has accepted 18 performing artists and groups to be added to its Kentucky Performing Arts Directory. Two groups had their eligibility renewed for the state-sponsored adjudicated roster of performing artists.

- Economic Stimulus Funds Preserve Jobs in Kentucky's Arts and Cultural Sector
Friday, July 17, 2009 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) funds have been granted to 27 Kentucky non-profit arts organizations through the Kentucky Arts Council, the Southern Arts Federation and directly from the NEA as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The $664,276 will preserve jobs in Kentucky that are threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn.
- Kentucky Arts Council Supports 87 Organizations through Kentucky Arts Partnership Grants
Wednesday, July 15, 2009 The Kentucky Arts Council has awarded $1,851,657 to 87 Kentucky non-profit arts and cultural organizations for FY2010, through the Kentucky Arts Partnership grant program. Kentucky Arts Partnership grants are competitive matching grants awarded for operational support to organizations across the state.

Tuesday, July 14, 2009 At its June 19th board meeting, the Kentucky Arts Council passed a "Resolution on Artists' Compensation" that reconfirms the commitment of the state's arts agency to artists working and living in Kentucky.
