Check Presented to City of Springfield

Frankfort, KY. (September 23, 2006)- Keith Rogers, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy, along with the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, presented a check to the City of Springfield for $60,200 to complete the Springfield Farmers’ Market.

The City of Springfield was funded for $30,100 in Washington County Agricultural Development Funds and $30,100 in State Agricultural Development Funds to complete a farmers’ market pavilion project in downtown Springfield.  

“I am pleased that the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund is being used to provide additional marketing outlets for area farmers along with the opportunity to provide Kentucky farmers with direct to consumer marketing programs," stated Executive Director, Keith Rogers. "This will give full and part-time farmers the opportunity to retain more of the retail value of the products they are producing. Community investment ensures a successful project that provides a facility that can accommodate other agriculture or community activities.”    

Governor Fletcher and the Kentucky Legislature continues to make great strides towards lessening Kentucky’s dependence on tobacco production while revitalizing the farm economy by investing 50% of Kentucky's Master Settlement Agreement into the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund.  Since the inception of the program in January 2001, the Agricultural Development Board has approved over 2,656 proposals committing over $222 million to an array of county, regional, and state projects designed to increase net farm income and create sustainable new farm-based business enterprises.
