LEXINGTON, KY  (June 7, 2005) More than 600 ponies and horses from Kentucky and across the nation will be teamed-up with their best friends to compete in the USPC Midsouth Region Pony Club Mega-Rally June 21-26 at the Kentucky Horse Park.

The Pony Club Rally is sponsored by the United States Pony Clubs (USPC), which has its national headquarters at the park.  The organization is for youth, and provides a program that teaches riding, mounted sports and the care of horses and ponies.  It develops responsibility, moral judgment, leadership and self-confidence.

John Nicholson, Executive Director of the Kentucky Horse Park stated, “The Pony Club is an excellent way for kids to be introduced to horses and develop a life-long love of these special animals.  When children learn to feel compassion for horses and develop the discipline it takes to care for them properly, these are character qualities that will serve them well all the days of their lives. That’s why we’re very pleased to offer a venue for the Pony Club Rally to be held.”

The Pony Club Rally is comprised of four different and separate competitions: the Quadrathalon (riding, swimming, running and shooting), a Dressage Rally, Stadium Jumping Rally and a Combined Training Rally (dressage, cross-country and show jumping).  A trade show is also part of the week-long activities.

While the competition itself is limited to members of the Pony Club, admittance to the event is included with Kentucky Horse Park admission.

The Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm/theme park and equine competition facility dedicated to man’s relationship with the horse.  An agency of the Kentucky Commerce Cabinet, the park hosted more than 900,000 visitors and 15,000 competition horses in 80 special events and horse shows in 2004.  The park is located at Exit 120, Interstate 75, just north of Lexington.  The place to get close to horses, the park is open daily March 15 to October 31, and Wednesday through Sunday, November 1 to March 14.
