WHO:  The United States, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the Kentucky Horse Park

WHAT:  An announcement regarding the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) selection of the host country for the 2010 World Equestrian Games.

WHEN:  Tuesday, December 6; the program will commence as close as possible to 10:00am.  It is recommended that media arrive by 9:45am. Please follow the signs to the announcement location.  In the unlikely event that the FEI decision is delayed, the program will commence immediately upon their announcement from Bahrain.  We do not anticipate that this will be later than noon.

WHERE: Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, Kentucky

WHY:  The United States’ bid for the Commonwealth of Kentucky to host the 2010 World Equestrian Games (WEG) at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.  The WEG, the most prestigious equine sporting event in the world, have never been held outside of Europe.  The United States is one of two finalists still viable in the bidding process, competing against Normandy, France.  The FEI, which is the international governing body for all non-racing equestrian sports, will make the final determination on December 6.  The United States will have a delegation in Bahrain for the FEI’s Bureau meeting at which time the FEI will make the selection between the United States and France.

          The Kentucky Horse Park is a working horse farm/theme park and equine competition facility dedicated to man’s relationship with the horse.  The park is an agency of the Kentucky Commerce Cabinet that hosted more than 900,000 visitors and 15,000 competition horses in 80 special events and horse shows in 2004.  The park is located at Exit 120, Interstate 75, just north of Lexington.  The place to get close to horses, the park is open daily March 15 to October 31, and Wednesday through Sunday, November 1 to March 14.
