LEXINGTON, KY (October 9, 2007)  The legendary Thoroughbred racehorse, John Henry, who was laid to rest Monday night, will be remembered and honored in a public memorial service on October 19 at 2pm at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Retired Daily Racing Form columnist Joe Hirsch said of John Henry, “He was not the best race horse. He was not the fastest or the busiest.  He wasn't the greatest weight carrier, and certainly not the handsomest or the most personable. But he was the most remarkable horse who ever raced – anywhere.”

Discussions are in progress about a special fund to establish a permanent memorial near John Henry’s paddock at the Hall of Champions.  Details will be released as soon as they are finalized.
