Financial Aid Tip of the Month, October 2005
Juniors at eligible Kentucky high schools could win a $500 scholarship to use at the Kentucky college of their choice—and a photo shoot for their school. All they have to do is tell why their school is the best in the state in 200 words or less.
The Promote Your School Scholarship contest is sponsored by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) and The Student Loan Peoplesm. Photos from the winning school will be used in KHEAA and Student Loan People books and other publications.
Last year’s winner was Sara Puckett of George Rogers Clark High School in Clark County.
“It was exciting. I didn’t think I had a chance at it,” she said. Puckett added that she and her fellow students enjoyed the photo shoot with KHEAA photographers.
“Everybody thought it was neat that we were going to be in all those books,” she said.
Students from the schools that have already been featured—Danville High School, duPont Manual High School and George Rogers Clark—aren’t eligible this year. But students from other high schools around the state can enter for a chance to have their school featured in the 2006 KHEAA publications.
To enter, send your essay to KHEAA, Publications Section, P.O. Box 798, Frankfort, KY 40602-0798. You can also e-mail it to publications@kheaa.com or fax it to (502) 696-7230. The winner will be chosen by a committee of KHEAA and The Student Loan People employees. Before the committee sees the entries, the names of both the students and their schools will be blacked out. The deadline for KHEAA to receive entries is November 1.
KHEAA and The Student Loan People provide millions of dollars each year to help Kentucky students pay for college. KHEAA administers the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) program and other state grants and scholarships. The Student Loan People provide the lowest cost student loans in the state.
