Students and parents who live in Bullitt, Jefferson, Oldham and Spencer counties can get free help on applying for college financial aid at a series of workshops in January and February.

Presenters will review the 2005–2006 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which must be used to apply for most federal and state student financial aid programs. They will also discuss how to apply for grants, scholarships, loans and work-study programs.

Workshops will begin at 7 p.m. The schedule is:

  • Jan. 27, Atherton High School
  • Jan. 27 Southern High School
  • Jan. 31, South Oldham High School
  • Feb. 3, Fern Creek High School
  • Feb. 3 North Bullitt High School
  • Feb. 3 Pleasure Ridge Park High School
  • Feb. 8, Bellarmine University
  • Feb. 10, Central High School
  • Feb. 10 Eastern High School

Students can attend the workshop that best fits their schedule. They are not required to attend the one being held at their high school. Parents and students need to be present for the entire session. Students can contact their school counselor for more information. Workshops will be cancelled if school is closed for bad weather.

The workshops are sponsored by the Jefferson County Public Schools, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA), The Student Loan People, PNC Bank, Bellarmine University, Jefferson Community and Technical College, Spalding University, Sullivan University and the University of Louisville.
