Commonwealth in Phase 1 of KEWS Upgrade
The Commonwealth is currently in Phase 1 of the Kentucky Emergency Warning System (KEWS) upgrade project (covering network upgrades in Northern and Eastern Kentucky). Work continues with its first major shelter replacement occurring at the Dry Ridge location later this week. Additionally, many of the towers that were structurally reinforced over the past month will be receiving new antenna systems over the next few weeks. These antenna systems provide the critical first link into the KEWS backbone. Their installation is the first step to providing the Commonwealth with a new and highly survivable communications network. Other important upgrades to selected site locations include the installation of new grounding and emergency backup power systems typically know as UPS (Uninterruptible Power Systems) at critical sites.
All the affected customers have been kept informed, and the KEWS Project team continues to work diligently to make certain that minimal impact to customer communications is experienced.
