BEREA, Ky. (October 7, 2004) -- On Wednesday, October 27, the Kentucky Arts Council will host a workshop to introduce artisans to the Kentucky Craft Marketing and the Visual Arts at the Market programs at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Workshop leaders will talk about the benefits of being juried members of Kentucky Craft Marketing, the Visual Arts at the Market program, and about the actual jury process. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring samples of their work along so that after the presentation, Kentucky Craft Marketing representatives can offer individual critiques and brief individual consultations about participant's work.
Kentucky Craft Marketing works with Kentucky artisans who are interested in building their craft businesses to a wholesale level and/or becoming juried participants of the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program (KCMP) or the Visual Arts at the Market Program. Juried participants can show and sell their work at KCMP’s annual wholesale/retail show Kentucky Crafted: The Market. The next market will be held March 3-6, 2005 at the KY State Fair & Exposition Center’s South Wing in Louisville. At this event, juried Kentucky Craft Marketing artisans sell their work to wholesale buyers from shops and galleries across Kentucky as well as from other states. Juried status also offers opportunities for participants to use the “Kentucky Crafted” logo, attend educational workshops, exhibit, and receive advanced technical assistance for their business and craft.
The Kentucky Craft Marketing Program is open to all Kentucky residents who create traditional and contemporary crafts in ceramics, fiber, glass, metal, wood, mixed media, or other natural materials. Jury evaluation is based on quality standards for originality/authenticity, technique, and design.
