Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea’s Satellite Store at WEG Offers Artisan Demonstrations Oct. 2-3
A weekend of exciting activity is planned Oct. 2-3 at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea’s Satellite Store in the Kentucky Proud Product Pavilion at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Demonstrating artisans will create jewelry from sterling silver and Kentucky agates and horse sculptures from wire.
On Saturday, Oct 2 from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Rachel Savané of Lexington will demonstrate how she creates jewelry from sterling silver and Kentucky agates. A native of Illinois, Savané studied metals at the University of Illinois and abroad in Denmark, receiving her BFA degree in metals in 1988. In 2003, Savané Silver Gallery opened in Lexington on West Main Street where Savané designs a line of jewelry with streamlined sterling settings using Kentucky Agates and semi-precious stones.
On Sunday, Oct 3 from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Dacelle Peckler of Danville will create wire horse sculptures. Peckler earned degrees from the University of Kentucky and a Masters in Veterinary Entomology from Auburn University. As a practicing equine veterinarian, she works at many different horse farms in the Lexington area. Peckler combines her love of horses and her respect for the environment by recycling used bailing wire from the farms she visits to create her horse sculptures. Her artwork has been featured on the cover of the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Visitors with general admission tickets will be able to see the creative process come to life every day at the Kentucky Artisan Center Satellite Store where works by more than 400 Kentucky artisans will be available for sale. Kentucky authors and artisans will demonstrate, sign their books or perform on site each day from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. The Kentucky Artisan Center Satellite Store will be open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. except on Oct. 5 when it will close at 5:30 p.m.; and Oct.10 when it will close at 5 p.m.
