Author Gary West to Sign “Eating Your Way Across Kentucky – 101 Must Places to Eat” at Kentucky Artisan Center
On Saturday, May 12, author Gary West of Bowling Green, will sign his new book, “Eating Your Way Across Kentucky – 101 Must Places to Eat” from 10:30 -3:00 at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
Gary West doesn’t claim to be a food critic, but he does claim to know what tastes good and what doesn’t. And you can bet the 101 restaurants in his book “Eating Your Way Across Kentucky” serve up food that is really delicious. Gary West wanted to model his book after ones published by Bowling Green hospitality guru Duncan Hines, in the 1930’s and 1940’s which helped travelers to identify good places to eat. To do this Gary spent two years traveling around the state, personally eating in all 101 restaurants included in this book.
Using suggestions from friends in tourism, family and from every part of the state, Gary went about sampling food with the rules being no chain restaurants, and if possible, restaurants that had been operating for at least five years. Gary states, “This is not a book about gourmet or fancy food, although there is a touch of both in it. It is about restaurants in small, medium, and big towns in Kentucky that, because of their attention to the little things and their labor of love in serving good food, have distinguished themselves as worthy enough to be included.”
