BEREA, Ky. (January 28, 2005) -- On Saturday February 5, Link Henderson of Lexington, will create pottery on a potters wheel from 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
Link Henderson was born in Florida and grew up in North Carolina. As a child Link enjoyed art lessons in a range of mediums and at the age of 13 began to work with clay. She fell in love with the material and has continued to work in clay ever since. She graduated from Dickerson College in Carlisle, PA, with a degree in Ceramics under the tutelage of nationally known ceramicist Barb Diduk.
Link came to Kentucky after college in 1997, and settled in Lexington. There she taught classes in ceramics at the Lexington Art League. She worked in clay at the University of Kentucky through evening adult education classes and in 2001 she set up her own studio. From her studio, Link began to teach classes and produce pottery to sell. In 2003, she began Kentucky Mudworks, a ceramic supply company in a renovated warehouse in downtown Lexington. Here she continues her studio work, teaches pottery classes, and runs Central Kentucky’s largest ceramic supply company, providing ready mixed and raw clays, glaze materials, equipment and tools.
Link works in cone 6 porcelain that is fired to 2200° Fahrenheit. She creates most of her work on the potter’s wheel and uses dark iron bearing glazes and light celadons. An oriental influence is evident in her forms – teapots that are small enough for individual use and bowls which often have cut notches in the rims to hold chop sticks.
A wide variety of Link Henderson’s beautiful functional pottery is regularly available at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea. The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is located just off Interstate 75 at exit 77 (Berea). The Center’s exhibits, shopping, and travel information areas are all open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the café from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. The Center currently features works by more than 470 artisans from all across the Commonwealth.
