Visit the Kentucky “Historymobile” July 12 -15 at the Kentucky Artisan Center
The Kentucky Historical Society’s “Historymobile” with its current exhibit, The Legend of Daniel Boone, will be open to visitors from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm on site at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, from July 12 -15, 2007.
The Kentucky Historical Society’s Historymobile is a mobile museum featuring exhibits on Kentucky history and is housed in a forty-five-foot semi-trailer. Since 1973, this program has presented a wide variety of exhibits on Kentucky history to at least one million Kentuckians, half of which have been students.
The current Historymobile exhibit is The Legend of Daniel Boone. This exhibit includes; reproductions of artifacts and items owned by Daniel Boone along with family items, text information and a video on Daniel Boone, narrated by the well-known Hollywood actor Fess Parker, who played Boone in the TV series. This exhibit which is handicap accessible, is free and open to the public.
Also of interest at the Kentucky Artisan Center is the Kentucky Arts Council’s exhibit Made to be Played: Traditional Art of Kentucky Luthiers which showcases Kentucky artists who are Masters at making and repairing guitars, fiddles, banjos, mandolins, dulcimers, and other original stringed instruments. Located in the lobby, this exhibit which runs through September 9 is dedicated to the late Homer Ledford of Winchester and includes several of his instruments.
The Kentucky Artisan Center is located just off Interstate 75 at exit 77 (Berea). The Center’s exhibits, shopping, and travel information areas are all open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the café from 8 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Admission is free. The Center currently features works by more than 650 artisans from 90 counties across the Commonwealth.
