BEREA, Ky. (November 12, 2004) -- On Friday, November 19, watercolor artist Ann Adamek of Louisville, will demonstrate watercolor painting for visitors from 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
A native Louisvillian, Ann Adamek began painting watercolors in 1989, when as she recalls, “I discovered that my creativity had been sorely neglected!” Ann received a Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work in 1969, and has been a licensed therapist in private practice from 1977 to the present. She specializes in marriage and family therapy and considers painting to be a release from her daily work. Ann is essentially self-taught in painting, having taken numerous workshops over the years, taught by nationally recognized watercolor artists.
Ann paints primarily with watercolors but also enjoys mixing them with other water media such as acrylics and inks, which provide interesting textures and a variety of effects. Drawn to subjects that are organic or that involve nature, Ann believes in the interconnected web of all life. She enjoys seeing the connections in nature’s designs and her interest in gardening helps feed a personal archive of imagery that can be seen in her paintings. Her works often reflect a sense of the seasons of the year.
Ann, whose work is available at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, is a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, and a member of the Kentucky Watercolor Society. She has won regional awards for her work and one of her paintings was accepted in “Aqueous” the Kentucky Watercolor Society’s National Juried Exhibition in 2002. Ann has had three of her paintings selected for publication in calendars that represent watercolor societies from four different states.
