A public dove hunting field near Cedar Creek Lake in Lincoln County is being temporarily closed due to illegal baiting. Officials with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are seeking information about the person or persons who baited the field, forcing its closure until Sept. 20.

The field is located at the Cedar Creek Sportsman’s Club near Stanford.

“Someone placed some small piles of wheat on the field,” said Capt. Richard Skaggs, 6th district commander for the law enforcement division of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “They are going to clean it up today. Federal law states you cannot hunt until 10 days after the bait is removed.”

The 20-acre field is located off U.S. 150, south of Stanford near Cedar Creek Lake dam.

“Any information on the placement of the bait would be appreciated,” Skaggs said.

Anyone with information about the illegal baiting is encouraged to call the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife poacher hotline toll-free at 1-800-25-ALERT.
