Celebrate National Hunting And Fishing Day With Food, Family And Fun Sept. 25 At The Salato Wildlife Education Center

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Shoot a bow, compete in a wild game cook-off, go fishing, or get weighed and tagged like a black bear in celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day at the Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. This free event is full of family-friendly activities and interactive exhibits.
Kids can test their fishing skills in our Casting Derby with prizes for those who score the highest points. Families can go fishing at one of our two lakes. Forgot your fishing pole? Check out a complementary fishing outfit from the front desk of the Salato Center.
Try your hand at air rifles and learn more about hunter safety and hunter education. Learn to tie flies with members of Trout Unlimited, or discover more about Ducks Unlimited by trying out a few duck calls. Archery, a bow fishing simulator and virtual hunting will also be part of the fun.
Finally, do you think that you know a thing or two when it comes to preparing wild game dishes? Then register for our Fourth Annual Wild Game Cook-Off. All dishes must include wild game meat. The top three cooks will receive prizes. Pre-registration is required. There is no entry fee for this competition. Have an appetite? Join us and support the Wild Game Cook-Off by trying free samples of tasty dishes.
