New Fish and Wildlife boat ramp in Owen County to be dedicated Nov. 6

space

Frankfort, KY. - Local legislators and county officials will join the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources in dedicating a new public boat ramp access and parking area on the Kentucky River at Gratz in Owen County at 11 a.m. Nov. 6.

The dedication and official public opening will take place at the boat launch ramp near the intersection of Main and Harlan streets in Gratz. The department constructed the new ramp and parking area at the site of the old bridge that was removed nearly three years ago.

"We needed public access on this pool of the Kentucky River," said Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Deputy Commissioner Benjy Kinman. "This new boat launch ramp will provide some much needed recreational opportunity."

The ramp project is the result of a working partnership between the city of Gratz, Owen County Fiscal Court and the department. The ramp is 14 feet wide and includes a parking lot that will accommodate up to 16 trucks with trailers.

The city of Gratz donated part of the land for the ramp site and the remainder was acquired from willing sellers. Seventy-five percent of the approximate $100,000 construction cost was covered by federal Sport Fish Restoration monies. Owen County Fiscal Court will supply general maintenance.

To reach the ceremony site, take U.S. 127 North from Frankfort. Once into Owen County, turn left onto KY 355 and continue onto Gratz. Take a left to the ceremony site.
