SOMERSET – The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights will give a free, in Spanish, “Know Your Rights,” presentation in Somerset, Ky. Below is an announcement in Spanish that describes the event.

Juan Pena, the Kentucky Human Rights Commission Immigrant Outreach supervisor, will conduct the seminar to teach people in Kentucky about their legal rights to fair housing, free from discrimination. In addition, he will provide guidance and instruction to people who may be victims of illegal discrimination.

The commission invites all members of the public to attend the event. It will begin at 6:30 p.m., on Sunday, July 20, at Saint Mildred’s Catholic Church. The church is located at 203 S. Central Ave in Somerset.

The commission is conducting this and other seminars in Spanish and English on fair housing rights by using funding the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provided with a Fair Housing Initiatives Program grant in order to provide much-needed fair housing rights education to people throughout the state.

The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights is the state government agency that enforces the Kentucky Civil Rights Act and the policies of federal civil rights laws. The Kentucky Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination on the bases of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age and disability in the jurisdictions of employment, public accommodations, housing and financial transactions. Tobacco-smoking status is an additional protected class in the jurisdiction of employment.
