Kentucky Human Rights Commission will meet
The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights Board of Commissioners will hold its regular monthly meeting at 9:30 am (EDT) on Thursday, May 20, to rule on discrimination complaints brought before the Commonwealth of Kentucky by its people and visitors.
The meeting will be at commission headquarters located at 332 W. Broadway, Ste. 700, Louisville, Ky. This month, the commission expects to rule on one conciliation agreement based on a housing discrimination complaint from Pikeville, Ky. In addition, the board will rule on 18 recommendations of no probable cause to believe discrimination occurred, six withdrawal agreements with private settlements, and four withdrawals without settlements but with rights to file private suits.
The commission is the Kentucky state government authority that enforces the Kentucky Civil Rights Act and federal civil rights laws. The laws make it illegal to discriminate against people because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, familial status, and also in Kentucky, tobacco-smoking status. The laws protect people according to varying requirements in the areas of employment, public accommodations, housing, and financial transactions.
Anyone who believes he or she may be a victim of discrimination in Kentucky is urged to contact the commission at 1.800.292.5566.
