(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - The Kentucky State Police Hurricane Katrina relief detail is scheduled to depart for the storm-damaged area on Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. CDT.  Approximately 55 officers, as well as KVE personnel, will be departing Southbound Interstate 65 at 29-mile marker rest area.  In addition to a briefing for all participating personnel, officers will receive necessary booster shots.

"We are pleased to be able to help our fellow law enforcement officers in Louisiana and Mississippi during this critical time," says KSP Commissioner Mark Miller."They face a tough challenge and we look forward to supporting their efforts. I commend all of our troopers who volunteered for this assignment, which could last two weeks or more. While their absence will not have any impact on the services KSP provides to Kentucky, their presence could help make a real difference to those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Their unselfish action exemplifies the commitment to public service that binds together law enforcement officers throughout the country."

The compliment of officers consists of a cross-section of KSP personnel with no post sending more than two troopers at a time.  The initial detail is scheduled to last two weeks.
