RICHMOND, Ky. – Law enforcement officers from 17 agencies across Kentucky graduated today from the Department of Criminal Justice Training’s Law Enforcement Basic Training Academy.

 

The 23-member class underwent 18 weeks of training, which consisted of more than 750 hours of recruit-level officer academy instruction. Major training areas include 40 hours of homeland security training, an Orientation for New Law Enforcement Families class, law offenses and procedures, vehicle operations, firearms, investigation, first aid/CPR, patrol procedures and mechanics of arrest, restraint and control.

 

During the ceremony, members of Basic Training Class 371 also honored the memory of fellow classmate and former Boone County Sheriff’s Office Recruit Thomas M. Scheben, Jr., who was killed in a motorcycle accident on May 31.

 

Josh Quinn of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office played Taps on the bagpipes immediately following the ceremony, as the members of Class 371 paid their respects in front of the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial.

 

The academy is located on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University.
