Kentucky Warden Nominated for National ‘Warden of the Year’ Honor

Frankfort, KY – Larry Chandler, warden of the Kentucky State Reformatory in LaGrange, Kentucky’s largest prison, has been nominated for the ‘Warden of the Year’ award, presented by the North America Association of Wardens and Superintendents (NAAWS). The organization has over 1,150 members from coast to coast in the U.S. and throughout Canada and includes wardens, superintendents and jail administrators who work in local, state and federal jurisdictions.

This will mark the second time in Chandler’s 24-year career in Corrections that he has been nominated for the national award. All ‘Warden of the Year’ nominees will be honored at the American Correctional Association Conference in August in Kansas City.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized by your peers nationally and to be selected as one of the top prison administrators in the country,” said Kentucky Corrections Commissioner John D. Rees. “Larry Chandler certainly deserves such recognition.”

Chandler oversees an inmate population of 2,000 and a staff of nearly 600. The facility houses the state’s most serious physical and mental health patients as well as a nursing home for aging and ill inmates. Prior to becoming warden at KSR, Chandler started his career as a correctional officer and he has served as warden at two other Kentucky prisons, Green River Correctional Complex and Luther Luckett Correctional Complex.
