KLC ANNOUNCES IT WILL CONTRIBUTE $50,000 TO SUPPORT KENTUCKY’S LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL

RICMOND, Ky. – The Kentucky League of Cities presented the Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation with a $50,000 check today, which will be paid in installments of $5,000 each year over the next decade to help maintain the state’s memorial to fallen peace officers.

“We have long recognized the importance of law enforcement people through such things as offering training and helping purchase ballistic vests,” said Sylvia L. Lovely, the league’s executive director and CEO.  “We felt it was equally important to help honor all those people who have given their lives while protecting Kentucky’s communities.”

KLC’s contribution will help in a number of ways.  Not only will the monument’s relocation allow for the addition of two new wings to the memorial for names of future law enforcement officers who may lose their lives in the line of duty, the monument’s new location will also be aesthetically designed to provide family survivors, friends, officers and others a peaceful place to properly pay tribute to Kentucky’s fallen officers.

The Kentucky Law Enforcement Foundation also uses funds it generates to provide emergency or medical relief to serving officers and their families, and educational scholarships.

The memorial was dedicated in May of 2000, honoring 295 fallen officers.  There have been 48 names added since 2000, 36 of which were “historical names” of officers who were killed in years past but whose names had not been submitted previously.

“The Kentucky League of Cities has been instrumental in supporting and advancing law enforcement across the Commonwealth for more than a decade,” said John W. Bizzack, Department of Criminal Justice Training commissioner and KLEMF board member. “This donation epitomizes the league’s commitment to Kentucky’s officers and is a fitting tribute to the lives of those memorialized on the monument.”
