KY 1460 Dedicated in Pike County

(PIKEVILLE, KY) In a ceremony held in Pikeville on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, General Norman E. Arflack, Secretary of the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, Senator Ray Jones, Kentucky State Police Commissioner Mark Miller and Pikeville Post Commander Captain Jim Booth unveiled the sign naming KY 1460 in Pike County the “Trooper Cecil W. Uzzle Memorial Highway”.

KY 1460 was named in honor and memory of Trooper Uzzle.  Trooper Uzzle along with Trooper Elmer Mobley were killed in a motor vehicle crash while responding to a call for assistance in Pike County on May 28, 1964.  As a result of legislation passed by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2002, highways across Kentucky have been, or soon will be, renamed in honor and memory of Kentucky State Troopers killed in the line of duty.

"The death of Trooper Cecil Uzzle was a great loss to this community and all of Kentucky. He was a gentleman and a great police officer that was dedicated to his family, his parents, and his profession,” stated General Arflack, who was on hand for the ceremony.

Although Trooper Uzzle has no living family members, his Kentucky State Police family was present for the memorial highway sign unveiling.  Speaking on behalf of the department, KSP Commissioner Miller said, “It is our hope that this sign, as well as the 22 others that will be erected across the Commonwealth, serve as a permanent reminder to all of us of the courage and commitment Kentucky State Troopers display every day.”

Additional signs have been placed or will be unveiled in the future honoring all 23 Kentucky State Police Troopers killed in the line of duty.  Notification will be provided when each sign is erected.
