Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence Announces New Executive Director for the Office of Legal Services
Former Fayette County Prosecutor Luke Morgan to fill position
FRANKFORT, Ky: Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence announced today that Luke Morgan will serve as the new executive director for the Office of Legal Services within the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet.
“I have had the great opportunity to work with Luke on several important initiatives, including the passage of Senate Bill 63 and the creation of the Kentucky Coalition Against Sexual Assaults,” said Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence. “Luke is a seasoned leader whose impressive record speaks for itself.”
“Luke’s legal acumen and strong work ethic have proven to be tremendous assets for the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet,” added Joseph Whittle, general counsel for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky. “Luke is a talented attorney who brings years of legal experience to the table.”
Luke Morgan has been the General Counsel for the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet since May 2004. Prior to this position, he worked as Assistant Director of the Special Prosecutions Division of the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office. He began his career as a prosecutor with the Fayette County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office in 1990. During his career, Luke has prosecuted over 130 jury trials across Kentucky, ranging from shoplifting cases to ten death penalty trials.
Morgan earned his Juris Doctor at the University Of Kentucky College of Law in 1989. He is a 1985 graduate of the University of Illinois. Morgan lives in Lexington with his wife and two children.
