Frankfort, KY - The Department of Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement, Indiana State Police and Illinois State Police saturated the Henderson/Owensboro area of Kentucky, southwest Indiana, and southeast Illinois throughout the day on Wednesday April 20, 2005.  Sixty-two (62) Officers, Troopers, and Inspectors from the three states as well as three fuel compliance officers from the Internal Revenue Service conducted an enforcement blitz targeting unsafe commercial vehicles and drivers in the Tri-State area.

There were 246 commercial vehicles (CMVs) inspected which resulted in 678 safety violations detected.  70 vehicles and 13 drivers were placed out-of-service for serious violations.  There were 267 traffic citations issued on a wide variety of violations including unsafe equipment, overweights, and speeding.  Additionally there were 344 warnings issued for violations.  One driver was found with a license that had been expired since 2002, and another was found with an altered license.

The primary focus of this project is for drivers and companies to seek compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations to enhance the safety of all drivers on our highways and reduce deaths.  Additional joint efforts between these states will take place throughout the year.
