(PENDLETON, KY) - On September 13, 2004, at 11:30 pm Trooper Michael Gonterman and Trooper Jim Mitchell stopped to check on a vehicle parked in the emergency lane of I-71 northbound. Trooper Gonterman determined that the operator of the vehicle, Ronald Williams age 48 from Louisville, KY was intoxicated and subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence. His passenger Ella Murphy age 58 from Louisville, KY who was also intoxicated was arrested for Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place. Trooper Gonterman had the 2 arrested persons in the backseat of his patrol car and was completing his paper work. Trooper Gonterman noticed that Ms. Murphy was in distress. He and Trooper Mitchell removed her from the patrol car and determining that she had no pulse and was not breathing, Trooper Mitchell began to perform CPR and summoned an ambulance. Campbellsburg EMS and Oldham County Paramedics responded. Ms. Murphy was transported to Baptist Hospital Northeast and then transferred to Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. Ms. Murphy was last listed in critical condition.
