September 7, 2004 at the Kentucky Emergency Services Conference in Lexington, KY., Communications Shift Supervisor Don Weckback of the Kentucky State Police Dry Ridge Post received the distinguished honor of Telecommunicator of the Year from the Kentucky Chapter, Association of Public-safety Communications Officials – International.
Communications Supervisor Jerry Keathley nominated Telecommunicator Weckbach for his distinguished service to the Kentucky State Police and the citizens of the Commonwealth. Keathley said, "Don Weckbach sets himself apart by taking the extra effort to obtain information critical to the success of our agency. Telecommunicators across the Commonwealth are the first responders to callers in distress and by acting quickly with information they are able to make the job of every responder safer and more effective."
Telecommunicator Weckbach a resident of Alexandria, KY in Campbell County started his career with the Kentucky State Police at the Dry Ridge Post in April 1992. Telecommunicator Weckbach has received several agency awards for his distinguished service during his 12-year career.
Captain Al Rich, Commander of Post 6 said, "Troopers in the field have said numerous times that in critical situations the voice they want to hear on the radio is Telecommunicator Don Weckbach. All the Telecommunicators at Post 6 are exceptional but Don Weckbach sets the example of what our Post and agency wants our telecommunications personnel to aspire to be. "
