FRANKFORT, KY - Justice and Public Safety Secretary J. Michael Brown today announced that funding is available for anti-drug and anti-violence coalitions within the network of Champions for a Drug Free Kentucky.  Applications for the funding, which is received through the federal Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities program, are due by June 12, 2009.

Champions Coalitions provide anti-drug and anti-violence education to schools and communities through the use of science-based model curricula and environmental strategies. Eligible applicants include county coalitions that have, through their Regional Prevention Center, established themselves as qualified to operate within the statewide network of Champions for a Drug Free Kentucky.

All applications for Champions funding must now be submitted by the Regional Prevention Center Director via the on-line Kentucky Justice Grants Management System (GMS).  Existing Champions Coalitions wishing to apply for funding in the 2009-2010 funding cycle must coordinate with their Regional Prevention Center. For a directory of Kentucky’s Regional Prevention Centers, visit http://www.mhmr.ky.gov/mhsas/sa_rpcdirectory.asp.
