Justice Cabinet Accepting Applications for Justice Assistance Grants and Law Enforcement Service Fee Grants
FRANKFORT, KY – The Justice and Public Safety Cabinet is now accepting applications for the annual Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) and Law Enforcement Service Fee (LSF) grant program solicitations. Applications must be submitted on-line through the Cabinet’s electronic Grants Management System. PLEASE NOTE: Supplemental Justice Assistance Grant funds available through the recently passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will be released through a separate solicitation, at a date to be announced in the future.
JAG grants are funded through an appropriation from the U.S. Department of Justice, and may be used for a variety of justice and public safety programs, including enforcement, prosecution, corrections, treatment, prevention and education. Applications may be submitted in one of three categories: Drug Task Forces, Restricted (total proposed project cost under $10,000), and Unrestricted (total proposed project cost greater than $10,000). Eligible applicants are state and local government agencies and not-for-profit agencies.
Local law enforcement agencies may apply for LSF grants to support DUI enforcement efforts, including overtime, equipment, and public awareness/prevention/education campaigns. LSF grants are funded from the service fee imposed on offenders convicted of DUI throughout the Commonwealth.
Applications must be submitted via the on-line Kentucky Justice Grants Management System (GMS). In previous years, applications were submitted via paper forms, delivered to the granting agency by a pre-determined deadline. Beginning in 2008, all applications submitted to Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet agencies are fully electronic. Applicants are strongly encouraged to establish a user account and familiarize themselves with the system well in advance of the due date. Please note: validation of new user accounts will take 48-72 hours. On-line training videos and a user manual are available by following the links on the Grants Management Branch webpage, http://justice.ky.gov/departments/gmb.
Submission deadline for JAG and LSF applications is 5 p.m. Eastern Time, April 17, 2009. Applications and related information may be obtained by following the links on the Grants Management Branch webpage, http://justice.ky.gov/departments/gmb.
Assistance with the new application process may be obtained by contacting Grants Management Branch staff, by telephone at 502-564-3251, or email at askgmb@ky.gov.
