Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement officers stopped a 1996 Kenworth tractor-trailer at the Hardin County Weigh Station on I-65 North for a Safety Inspection on Wednesday, July 7.

The truck was driven by Fidel Gonzalez, 30, of Brownsville, Texas. Gonzalez was accompanied by Jose Manuel Rodriguez, 21, also of Brownsville, Texas.

Upon completion of the Safety Inspection, KVE officers impounded the vehicle for failure to file Fuel Tax and not having proper operating authority.

Further investigation led criminal interdiction officers to request, and receive, consent to search the vehicle. While searching the tractor, officers uncovered a hidden compartment containing 32 bundles of U.S. currency totaling approximately $330,000.00.

Both Gonzalez and Rodriguez cooperated fully with Vehicle Enforcement officers and were released.

Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement is working in conjunction with federal authorities in an ongoing investigation.

KVE administrators and the officer involved will be available for media interviews on Friday July 9.
