FRANKFORT, Ky.: Governor Ernie Fletcher today presented a $249,507 homeland security check to Rowan County to fund equipment for the region’s Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Team.
“Kentucky’s regional HazMat teams are essential components in our commonwealth’s overall preparedness efforts,” said Gov. Fletcher. “These teams routinely respond to a variety of incidents that may threaten the public’s safety. That is why ensuring they have the equipment to do their job effectively will remain a priority of my administration.”
Fletcher, who was joined at the MMRC Fire Dept. by the Director of the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security Alecia Webb-Edgington, presented the funding that will help support the Region 8 HazMat team. This region is comprised of 10 counties which include: Rowan, Bracken, Robertson, Mason, Lewis, Fleming, Bath, Montgomery and Menifee Counties.
The homeland security check presented today to Rowan County Judge/Executive Clyde Thomas will provide the region’s HazMat team with search and rescue equipment, detection and decontamination equipment, and personal protective gear. The Rowan County Fiscal Court is responsible for the management of the grant.
