Federal Homeland Security Grants Awarded to Local Response Agencies
Frankfort, KY: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced the Kentucky recipients of the most recent round of Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP) grants. 59 departments across the state were provided grants to ensure that law enforcement and emergency responders receive specialized equipment and training to meet their homeland security mission.
“It is essential that we provide our first responders with the equipment and resources they need to do their jobs effectively,” said Gov. Ernie Fletcher. “This funding will support Kentucky’s local homeland security partners and help strengthen the Commonwealth’s ability to prevent, protect, respond and recover from disasters.”
CEDAP offers equipment in the following categories:
- personal protective equipment;
- thermal imaging, night vision, and video surveillance tools;
- chemical and biological detection tools; information technology and risk management tools; and
- interoperable communications equipment.
This program also focuses on smaller communities and metropolitan areas not eligible for the Urban Areas Security Initiative grant program. Awardees are required to receive training on their awarded equipment either on-site or at a CEDAP training conference.
The CEDAP program grants are a funding stream outside of the state’s discretionary funding.
