KHS Boone Day Celebrates "Magic" of Churchill Weavers Collection
Frankfort, KY - (May 15, 2008) This year's Boone Day celebration, a proud Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) tradition for more than a century, is scheduled for Saturday, June 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort. Held annually at KHS since 1897, Boone Day celebrates June 7, 1769, when Daniel Boone first saw Kentucky.
Many Boone Day activities are open to the public (see schedule below). Visitors to KHS can experience our new preservation exhibition Magic in the Weaving: The Churchill Weavers Collection Revealed in the Keeneland Changing Exhibits Gallery and A Kentucky Journey in the Warren and Betty Rosenthal Permanent Exhibits Gallery, in addition to tours of the Old State Capitol, which begin on the hour. Admission to all museums and exhibitions is $4 for adults, $2 for youth (6-18), and children under 5 are free.
KHS members receive free admission to all exhibitions on the KHS history campus and will enjoy a complimentary Southern brunch featuring some of Kentucky's traditional favorite dishes. Members also have the opportunity to meet and listen to Lila Bellando, former owner of Churchill Weavers, tell her story of commitment to the integrity and legacy of Churchill Weavers, and why she chose KHS to save and preserve this important collection for future generations.
